The
Supreme Court in Nepal gave an interim
order staying the government's decision to send sand, stones and ballast to India.
This has been done after environmentalists and opposition leaders raised
concerns.
A
bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana said that the caretaker
government should stop this export till the final decision is taken in the
matter. The bench also consists of Justices Meera Khadka, Harikrishna Karki and
Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha. Earlier in the budget for the financial year
2021-22, Finance Minister Vishnu Poudel had announced the export of sand, stone
and ballast to India. It was said that this would help in reducing the
country's trade deficit. While environmentalists warned the government about
this decision.
