In response to the Supreme Court notice, the Rajasthan government opposed Asaram’s bail, said that no need of transfer

Responding to the notice of the Supreme Court, the Rajasthan government has opposed the bail of Asaram Bapu, who is serving a life sentence for rape. The Rajasthan government said that Asaram was deliberately not taking medicines prescribed by AIIMS Jodhpur with the intention of being shifted to the Ayurveda centre. They can be treated in AIIMS Jodhpur, there is no need to transfer them.

During the hearing held earlier, the Supreme Court had refused interim bail to rape convict Asaram Bapu after hearing the bail application and sought a response from the state government.

Rajasthan government opposed the parole/bail of Asaram Bapu, who is serving life imprisonment for rape. Said that Asaram is deliberately not taking medicines prescribed by AIIMS Jodhpur with the intention of being shifted to Ayurveda Centre. They can be treated in Jodhpur AIIMS, they do not need to be transferred.

In fact, Asaram has sought interim bail from the Supreme Court for treatment on the ground of ill health. Asaram has sought treatment at an Ayurveda center near Haridwar. The court had issued a notice to the Rajasthan Government on this demand and sought its response. Rajasthan Government has opposed the demand in the reply filed. In early May, Asaram was hit by a corona infection. Asaram was admitted to AIIMS after getting infected. Asaram had applied for bail for his deteriorating health and treatment of corona infection by Ayurveda method, in which he had sought interim bail for two months for treatment and recovery.

Earlier too, Asaram had filed a bail petition in the Rajasthan High Court but the High Court rejected the interim bail plea. Asaram Bapu is serving life imprisonment after being found guilty in the rape case. In the year 2018, Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment in the rape case. The minor girl had alleged that Asaram had called her to his ashram in Manai area near Jodhpur and raped her on August 15, 2013.
