African country Kenya is going to set an example of
women empowerment. The Parliament of Kenya has decided to make Judge Martha Kume
(61) the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Martha has played an
important role in empowering women.
The judicial committee selected Martha by taking a
live interview on TV. The committee preferred the trial in which Martha
represented President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Supreme Court.
Indeed, there was controversy in Kenya in the 2017
presidential election. The opposition challenged the election of Kenyatta in
the Supreme Court. Martha then represented Kenyatta in the Supreme Court. The
Supreme Court then quashed the election of Kenyatta. There was a re-election in
Kenya. Kenyatta won in this election. Martha is benefiting from this victory.
Now Martha is going to become the head of the Supreme Court.
Martha said in response to a question during the interview
of the Chief Justice – “A person cannot be discriminated against just because
you believe he would commit a crime.” Martha was born into a polygamous family.
Martha is one of her 18 siblings. His family used to do farming. Martha has
three children.
