Cop wrote letters for 22 yrs to get back job

17 Oct 2007 The Times of India

NEW DELHI: It took Subal Moharana 22 years to get back his job with Railway Protection Force after a dismissal for allegedly stealing 25 kg of coal from a wagon.

Moharana, who fought the battle with letters to higher-ups without ever going to a court, thought his perseverance had finally paid off.

He was wrong. The day he reported for duty, the RPF cop from Harirajpur in Orissa, was suspended, this time for lack of fitness.

After his sack in 1985, Moharana launched a series of applications seeking reinstatement. "I have lost count of the letters I wrote," he says.

Finally, in December 2005, the board ordered his reinstatement. Now, the authorities say the cop is not fit for duty after a heart surgery. For Moharana, next battle has already begun.
